As artists we each have our own personal styles. We can see similarities between artists, but each will still have his own individual signature on a piece. I'm still working on my style, I feel. I know how I want it to look and I know what I am drawn to, but I want to make sure I'm not "copying" those I admire and really making something my own. What I have realized is that my style is largely influenced by my life as a mother.
I look at the images of my mentors, we'll call them, and I know that they have put in a lot of effort and a lot of time into creating their images. Whenever I look at them, after I've had my moment of awe, I always think "I wish I had the TIME to create images like that!" But the fact of the matter is, I don't. Obviously. The creation of my images has to be very straight forward. I have maybe an hour to shoot and then a smattering of ten minutes every day or so to actually edit. I unfortunately can't sit for hours and work on an image. Even now my time is being shortened because of the squirmings of a baby on my lap.
And so I shoot for simplicity but with a story that has a lot of impact. I think the style of our art is a reflection of our lifestyles. What impacts your artistic style?
