The Birth of a Soul

I don't have a particular story for this one, and no scripture that inspired it. I just felt compelled to go out into my back yard and lie between my little aspen trees as if asleep and dreaming, drinking in the solitude of a quiet evening sunset.

I wish I could spend all of my days like this. But of course, being a mama I can't.

We've discovered that we're going to have to cut down all the trees on our property. It makes me sad, especially about the large old whatever-it-is in our front yard. The trees on our property inspired me, and now we have to get rid of them. They are diseased.

But in thinking over my trees I began to think about the soul. Some people have this phrase "a bad egg" to denote someone who was flawed/bad/evil from birth. I don't believe in that. My trees became diseased over time for misuse or lack of proper care. I think that's largely what happens to people. We are not born evil. Circumstances precondition us and our personal choices change us into being "a bad egg." This image began to represent this for me as I was editing it. The soul in the picture is dressed in black, not because she is evil, but because it is herself, not what she dons on her body, the denotes her countenance. I wanted her skin to glow, rather than the white of the gown she was wearing.

Today is another one of those days where I wish I could say more, but the little ones are calling (i.e. screeching) for me and the day must begin (i.e. chores, errands, more screeching). I wish you all a happy Monday.
