Peace

I love clouds. I love what they do to light. I love their textures. I love that they are always changing. As I young girl I always wondered what it would be like to be up in the clouds. When I was old enough to consciously remember my love for clouds and old enough to remember the experience we took a plane ride across the Atlantic. And I was in the clouds. And I was above the clouds. It was magical, to say the least. I was in my happy place.

If I could live in the clouds I imagine I would always be happy. Floating above everything, wrapped in softness and wonder, sleeping in comfort and serenity. A world between earth and heaven. This is what peace looks and feels like to me. Living in a place, that we know is physically impossible, and yet feeling completely unafraid and at home. Living in a place where there's no solid ground and being completely at rest. Whenever I feel like I've lost my ground on earth, I put myself up in the clouds.

I wish I could be her.

As my series is coming to its close, with one image in post-production and two left to shoot, I thought you might be interested in seeing how I put together a shoot and then edit the image. I chose this image for that purpose as it was one of my least extensive edits and I felt you wouldn't want to sit around for forever watching it. That being said, it's still a six minute long video. In it are photo stills of the shoot and then sped up film of my editing. Please forgive the occasional popping in of my son and husband's heads, the poor film quality (my computer decided it couldn't run Photoshop and do screen recording at the same time so I had to film it on my video camera), and the lack of fluidity on my part (I had just purchased my new Wacom touch tablet and was still trying to get used to it). I would also like to note that I by no means consider myself a Photoshop expert. Ha! Far from it in fact. A lot of my work is done figuring things out and trying different things until I get the look and effect I want. Please don't use this video as a "best PS practices" or "how-to-PS-this tutorial." I merely wanted to share my process with you. The music has no real impact towards what I wanted the image to say, just that they are a couple of my favorite songs. I hope you enjoy!

Where can you find peace?
