An Impromptu Gallery Viewing

Portraits in a Nightgown has officially come to an end. The series is now put to rest. It's an odd and amazing feeling. I set out to start and complete a series, and though I had finished shooting over a month ago it never felt completely finished until my husband and I got home and finally put our son to bed a whopping two hours past his bed time. But I did it.

Though we were all exhausted the experience was well worth the temper tantrums from being over tired that our boy threw the next day.

It was so wonderful to be surrounded by friends and all the wonderful girls who posed for me and seeing their faces light up when they saw their photographs in print along side those of their sisters' and friends'. I loved every minute of it. It was low budget and not exactly "elegant" but it felt that way just from all the love and awe that people were sharing. Viewers were encouraged to leave little messages/impressions/thoughts/feelings about the photograph or the young woman in the photograph. It was a great way for people to interact with the art and a memento for the young ladies as they were able to go home with their photograph and the page of messages. We had such a great turn out; I was pleasantly surprised!

From all of this I've learned a lot about myself. And I'm so glad I had these young ladies there to help me on that journey. I'm excited to continue to work with them in the future; on little projects until baby comes, and larger projects once baby has debuted.

Art is only worth creating only if you're willing to share the experience with others. Whether it be by involving them in the creation, teaching them how to create it themselves, or holding a little get together. I'm glad I was able to do what I love most about creation: sharing.
